Markus Guschelbauer (Vienna/AUT)
visual artist, photographer
was born in 1974 in Friesach (A), he lives and works in Vienna. After studying photography at the Institute of Fine and Media Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, he has been working as a freelance artist since 2009. Landscapes are both reference point and backdrop for his artistic interventions and stagings. Using everyday materials and elements from the artistic vocabulary of forms, he creates temporary pieces on the stage of landscape. Through the precise pictorial act of the photographic and filmic process, they form into autonomous pictorial works that move at the intersection of photography, sculpture, performance, and land art. His interventions stand for an individual, subjective action of a single body as an actor in the landscape or nature and discuss relevant questions of space, territory and its appropriation.
